Since ancient times men have had a desire to get high positions in the society. The reason of it is that a high social status always makes a person respectable and influential, provides worthy life conditions and fulfillment of many dreams. A social status is determined by several factors. Usually sociologists ascribe authority, richness, income, education and a job to them.

Nobody will refuse, getting a worthy position is not an easy thing. First of all, it is because any success is earned only by your own labour. As a confirmation I would like to remember Marva Collins’s words: "Success doesn’t come to you… you go to it”. Undoubtedly, the way to the top is long and thorny. It is like a staircase, where each step is full of difficulties and obstacles, which you are to overcome to be a success, as it is said "per aspera ad astra”.

A good way to touch the stars and become a worthy citizen is a career: the series of jobs that a person has in a particular area of work, usually involving more responsibility as times passes. To my mind, a career presupposes moving forward very quickly.

Nowadays there are a lot of people who strive for building a career, who are ready to devote themselves completely to it. A career takes the first place in their life, that is why they are called careerists. "First of all I will get a well-paid and prospective job, buy a house, a car, everything I need and then will think of making a family”- the ideas of such a kind occupy human mind more and more today. Especially women are influenced by this tendency. A career woman considers that her business is more important than getting married and having children.

To tell the truth, this phenomenon is controversial. Some people think a woman should be a housewife, who keeps home, creates cosiness and warmth in the family according to her nature.

From another point of view, being a housewife makes representatives of a weak sex dependent on their husbands who earn money for family. In this situation majority of women feel discomfort, because their freedom is limited. It is known to contradict the right of all people for freedom. Modern women are literate juridically: they know all the rights and want no discrimination. Thus, a great number of women turn into successful and self-satisfied business-ladies. I must confess that I dream to be like them. To my way of thinking I am in the running.

My first step on the way to the top is education. It is sure to be the beginning of any career. If you want to be successful, you should be plunged deeply in thought, understand yourself and choose a profession in accordance with your desire. Four years ago I entered Mikhailovka Teacher Training College. My choice is right for sure. In a year I will become a teacher of the English language. How noble it is to love children, teach and bring them up, giving each pupil a piece of your heart and care! Teachers are and always have been at the cutting edge of education, especially teachers of foreign languages, whose work is special, difficult but interesting. Interesting, fascinating and productive work always brings people happiness.

Studying is the main occupation for me today. It is pleasant and flattering to be good at it, but it is absolutely impossible to be only a success. Our life is like interchangeability of stripes: colored, white and, unfortunately, black. To be mistaken sometimes is a human quality. Nevertheless, mistakes or defects in my work are percepted as a light defeat, which provides mild depression: the state when nothing seems to be desirable and attractive, you don’t hear birds’ singing, don’t feel the warmth of the Sun beams and don’t notice the beauty of young life. The remedy against this disease is necessary. My medicine is the poem written by Edgar A. Guest:

Figure it out for yourself, my lad,

Two arms, two hands, two legs, two eyes

These words, like a thunderstorm after a tiring hot day, bring freshness to my mind, pour new strength into my inner world. Inspired, I am ready to act again.

I have a purpose: to know English perfectly and have a prestigious job connected with it. Though it seems to be fogged a bit now, each my step up makes me nearer to it.

Having no purpose, a person floats in the current of life like a log in a river. On the other hand, when he has a goal, he imagines clearly what to undertake for his achievements, as though, makes a plan of future actions. I believe with whole my heart that I can achieve my purpose. I am persistent and strong-willed. But, like anyone, I can be at a loss. In this case, I should be ready to take up a challenge bravely and be able to come out any situation as a winner.

Making a career can be considered as a long competition with circumstances and ourselves, where we must become swifter, higher, stronger, to put it in, perfect ourselves. People should strive for the better, it doesn’t matter in which sphere of life, in everything, including material values. A good career is supposed to provide good income. This is one of the reasons why people try to develop from a beginner to an experienced professional. Money is always sunny, isn’t it?

Unfortunately, very often we meet someone who can prevent us from having this sunny thing and getting to the top. They can be called opponents or even enemies, who are usually full of envy towards you. Every time they give you a sullen glare, want to touch hone, take the measure of your foot and look forward to your fall. To save ourselves we must be constantly attentive, stand our ground and trust only reliable friends. Otherwise, we could be easy bewildered, get in a trap and ultimately say "Good-bye” to all our hopes and plans.

Though, opponents can be considered from a positive point of view, as one more stimulus for hardening and becoming stronger. There is a simple truth: when you know that someone wishes you to have defeat, it makes you be more active and hardworking to prove everyone that you will get to the top in spite of everything, even their insidious plans to take the wind out of your sails.

In the modern world many of us tend to think that it is impossible to make a good career without great sums of money and knowing the right people. These factors are really useful for a career, as well as good luck. Favourable circumstances take place in our life, as everyone is in the running. When life is generous, we should not let slip the chance through the fingers but catch a fortune for its tail.

However, the most important bases of success in life are mentioned in a wise Russian proverb: "Patience and work will win everything”, even if you are an extremely talented person, your talent is nothing without work. Pablo Picasso said: "I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it”. We should work and improve our skills to achieve all we want in life.
